Reviewing it, India's greatest ornithologists wrote "this work as a whole will equal, if not surpass, any other work of the kind, it is by far the most complete and satisfactory work that has yet appeared...” Legge describes 371 species and sub-species for Sri Lanka. All of these (except 21 endemic species) are found on the Indian sub-continent making it on birds of the entire Indian region. |
