| Meer info | The map comes from the original French edition of Prevost “Histoire générale des Voyages, ou nouvelle Collection de toutes les Relations de Voyages par Mer et par Terre”, published Paris 1746-1761. Bellin, who designed the maps, was one of the important French mapmakers of that century. Depicts Kamtchatcka, Kourile Islands and parts of the Sea of Okhotsk and the Bering Sea. With Vitus Bering's Second Kamchatka Expedition (ca 1733–1743), in the service of the Russian Navy, began the final "opening" of Kamchatka. |
